Never one to be content sitting still while growing up in southern Alberta, BJ Oudman has continued to explore and diversify throughout her career. Graduating from the University of Alberta in 1991 with a degree in physical therapy, she owned a multidisciplinary rehabilitation clinic in downtown Calgary for 15 years before a successful exit in 2008. Although she continues to work part time in her professional field, her passion for food and wine led her to attain her Level 2 diploma through the International Sommelier Guild and a variety of roles in the oenology world.
Walking the land with local growers and producers is what truly inspires BJ. No sooner home from one trip, she is busy planning the next. Having visited too many places to count, she can call Phuket, Thailand and Portland, Oregon home (owning property in each), but France is where her heart (and stomach) bring her back time and again.
Leading an active lifestyle and heralding the role of community in healthy aging, BJ promotes health and wellness by example, playing competitive sports from hockey to tennis in years past to now focusing on cycling, running and hitting the gym, including circuit and spin classes.
Currently BJ contributes to publications including City Palate, International Living and various blogs as a freelancer. She is also a “Cool Cousin” - an online international travel advisor community, giving advice and suggestions to people looking for authentic experiences all over the world.
